About This Blog

Together we share an interest in and passion for multimedia storytelling and look forward to using Mamelodi Stories as a means by which we can share many different stories—with photos, audio and video—about those we are serving as well as about our own experiences in South Africa. By following along, you will get a more complete picture of life there and along with us, be compelled to grieve with those who are suffering, pray for those in need and most of all rejoice in God’s unending mercy and love.

Unlike some "doom and gloom" documentary work on HIV/AIDS and poverty in Africa, we are intent on showing the triumph of the human spirit over immense tragedy, and the manifestation of sincere love in the midst of tremendous suffering. We are hopeful that the audio-visual pieces we produce together for Mamelodi Stories will not only raise awareness about the issues plaguing Mamelodi, South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa as a whole, but will be a testament to the hope and resilience—and the faith and joy in Christ—of the voices within that community and country.

Given the seriousness of the crises facing Sub-Saharan Africa, this is a critical time, and we believe that the world and, in particular the Church, must respond. Ultimately, we hope that the stories we produce for Mamelodi Stories will challenge and inspire others, especially people of faith but the world at large as well, to care about the social ills facing communities in Africa and to respond appropriately with needed action.

"We have to understand that the world can only be grasped by action, not by contemplation." –Jacob Bronowski
